PROGRAMME WORKSHOPS:
ACP Fish II is a demand driven Programme financed under the 9th European Development Fund aimed at strengthening fisheries management in ACP countries. The Programme continues to follow a participatory approach through which ACP countries are involved in identifying, formulating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating projects.
From the Programme Management’s point of view, regional workshops are a good example of the participatory and demand-driven approach adopted by ACP Fish II and it will be the basis for its success. All countries in each region have worked together and with the Programme, to define needs and priorities related to fisheries policies and management. The projects were proposed and further on validated and monitored under working groups and regional workshops and all views were shared and taken into consideration.
The 1st Regional Needs Assessment Workshop (RNASW) that took place in December 2009 was designed to identify broad areas for targeting the Programme support. The 2nd Regional Action Plan Workshop was held in October - November 2010 at which the participants identified projects and agreed on the Regional Action Plan (RAP). The third round of workshops, the Programme Monitoring Workshops, were held in March- April 2011. Its main objective was to review progress in project implementation to date and plan for future tasks. Next monitoring workshops are planned from November 2011 to January 2012.
STEERING COMMITTEE
The Programme operates under the guidance, supervision and control of a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is set up to oversee and validate the overall direction and policy of the Programme. The Programme’s Steering Committee meets twice a year and is composed of:

-
The imprest administrator and the imprest accounting officer for the project designated in the programme estimates, members of the Coordination Unit in Brussels, currently Mr. Gustavo Miranda and Mr Cheik Oumar Tall respectively.

-
Representatives of regional organisations (ECOWAS, SADC, COMESA, CEMAC, CARICOM, Pacific Islands Forum, UEMOA and CEEAC/ECCAS) or mandated representatives working in collaboration with key stakeholders.
-
The 6 Regional Managers and the staff from the Coordination Unit attend the Steering Committee and help its members to follow up the implementation of ACP FISH II Programme.
PROGRAMME NETWORK MEETINGS
The ACP Fish II Network meetings are an opportunity for the ACP Fish Network to join with other national and regional stakeholders to examine critical issues for the sustainable management of fisheries in each Region.
Keynote speakers were invited to present their international or national approach and participants were encouraged to contribute to the technical discussions, examine their own role and potential involvement in solutions whilst also examining the contribution of ACP Fish II in the sector
PROJECT EVENTS
ACP Fish II has the clear understanding that the most effective way to involve all concerned entities in fisheries development and sustainable growth should be achieved through the ownership of the Programme by all actors. As a consequence, more than 150 consultative and validation workshops ensure a participatory approach for all projects, through the active involvement of stakeholders.
